Carnaval   Peru
Sweet & Mellow
Tastes Like:
Plum, Apple Syrup + Bourbon.
This joyful Peruvian lot is as lively as its name suggests. Carnaval brings together the work of four farmers in Cajamarca's El Campo, a region as rich in tradition as it is in flavour. With extended fermentation unlocking bold and unexpected character, this washed coffee dances on the palate - think deep stone fruit, golden sweetness and a savoury edge that keeps it grounded. It's a celebration in a cup, crafted with care by a close-knit community and inspired by the vibrant spirit of Peru's most beloved festival.

This coffee lot is specially prepared by Cultivar, the exporter. They selected the coffees with the most daring, unexpected and fun notes that we they tasted this last year. They could have given it several names, but found a perfect one for it: Carnaval. Cajamarca region in Peru, best known for its dairy products and, of course, its coffees. But also it is known for its carnavals in February. The “Carnaval Cajamarquino” is one of the happiest and most anticipated festivals in the entire country. It has its origin in the 1930s and has evolved to this day. This lot consists of coffee from four different farmers. In Peru, the word “don” in the case of men and “doña” in the case of women was used before as a symbol of respect. Today, in some parts of the country, especially in the provinces, these words are still used to refer to older people or those who are experts in some subject. In el Sector el Campo, Carlos Vega is better known as “Don Vega”. Don Vega is a benchmark in coffee cultivation. Young and old come to him when they need some advice for their farms and coffee commercialization. Don Vega’s opinion definitely weighs heavily on his neighbours.
