From Sustainability to Transparency: A New Chapter in Coffee Ethics
At Brewed, we’re passionate about coffee that’s as ethical as it is delicious. For years, the focus in our industry has been on sustainability - a critical goal but one that’s often hard to pin down. The complexities of coffee production, from global markets to climate challenges, make sustainability an ideal that’s difficult to measure or achieve consistently.
That’s why we’re shifting our focus toward transparency. By being upfront about where our coffee comes from, who it supports, and how it’s sourced, we can bridge the gap between intention and action. Transparency doesn’t simplify the challenges of sustainability, but it makes them clearer, allowing us - and you - to make *informed decisions that truly matter*.
Transparency in Action
At Brewed, we’re taking steps to make transparency more than a value - it’s becoming a practice. We’ve started asking the roasters we work with to share measurable metrics about their sourcing practices. This includes details like Farmgate Prices (*what farmers are paid directly*), the percentage these prices exceed Fairtrade minimums, and other tangible insights into how fairness is achieved.
When these metrics are available, we’ll display them on our website so you can see exactly how your coffee supports ethical practices. Our goal is to create a clearer picture of what fairness looks like in action - how decisions are made, who benefits, and how we’re working to build a better coffee industry.
This process is a collaborative effort. By encouraging our roasters to provide transparency, we’re fostering trust throughout the supply chain and ensuring that farmers, roasters, and coffee drinkers alike are part of a more equitable system.
A New Standard for Coffee
Transparency isn’t the end of the journey, but it’s a step toward something better. By focusing on clarity, fairness, and accountability, we’re creating a coffee marketplace where ethical sourcing isn’t just an ideal—it’s the standard.
At Brewed, every cup of coffee tells a story. With transparency as our guide, that story is one of fairness, collaboration, and a shared commitment to doing what’s right. Join us in shaping a more ethical coffee industry, one bean at a time.
