This month, we’re going all out, showcasing more coffees, origins, and flavour notes than ever before, we see this as a chance to broaden our understanding together and to share our passion with our community, to celebrate the journey from bean to cup and to appreciate the farmers, roasters, and baristas who contribute to every sip we take.
For me personally, Coffee Month is a time to reflect on the incredible journey our shop has embarked on over the past five years. From the very first aromatic burst of our initial house coffee - a stunning Guatemalan from Huehuetenango provided by Campbell and Syme - to navigating the challenges of a pandemic, and finally, introducing my son to the coffee shop for the first time... it’s been a remarkable journey. We're profoundly thankful to everyone who has joined us along the way.
Tips on How to Celebrate from Home
Experiment with Brewing Methods: Try a new brewing method, whether it’s a French press, V60, or AeroPress. Each method highlights different aspects of your coffee’s flavour profile. Head over to James Hoffmann's YouTube channel for brewing methods to help get you started.
Pair Coffee with Food: Experiment with coffee and food pairings. Try dark roast coffee with chocolate desserts or light roast with more citrusy dishes, reach out to a member of staff if you need some recommendations and remember you can use the category system to help easily identify a coffees character!
Learn About Coffee: Dive into an online coffee course or explore one of the many fantastic books available—our curated reading list can be found here. Fortunately, we have several of these gems right on our reading shelf at Brewed HQ.
Coffee in London
Coffee has been integral to London’s social fabric since the first coffee house opened in 1652, these coffee houses became hubs for intellectual exchange and commerce and by the 18th century were known as “penny universities” where one could engage in stimulating conversation for the price of a coffee. London’s coffee culture has evolved dramatically, but the essence of coffee as a catalyst for creativity and community remains unchanged.
The Evolution of Speciality Coffee in London
Today, London is a vibrant hub for speciality coffee. Independent coffee shops and roasters prioritise quality, sustainability, and ethical sourcing. The city’s coffee scene is diverse, with cafes offering single-origin beans, innovative brewing techniques, and a commitment to excellence. London’s coffee culture is now a blend of tradition and innovation, celebrating both the art and science of coffee.
At Brewed, we are looking to take things to the next level by working closely with many of the best independent roasters across the nation and beyond. We stock an ever-growing number of beans from around the world and with every new member, we can branch out, stock more beans, and reduce our prices. Thanks to all of you who have joined us on this journey. Want to become a member? You can do that here.
What’s on Guest?
We’re kicking things off with a washed Peruvian gem from Hard Lines in Cardiff. It’ll be on our guest grinder for the next week or so, alongside that, expect to find three filter brews available all day from Wood St, Hard Lines, and Outpost. Want to keep up with what’s on? Follow us on Instagram.
Happy National Coffee Month,
Bobby
