Tastes Like:
Berries, Lemon + Dark Chocolate.
Say hello to this delightful natural lot from the Tuvugirikawa co-op, meaning "plea for coffee farmers." Founded by smallholders in 2008, they built their own washing station in 2014. Now part of the COCOCA union with 692 members, they’re all about quality. Milled and exported by Ikawa Nziza, Burundi’s first specialty dry mill, this coffee showcases the best of the region and it's a standout on our shelves at the moment.

From Outpost Coffee
During colonization, Belgians forced Burundians to grow coffee to pay taxes. After independence, farmers were reluctant to grow coffee, focusing little on quality. When coffee prices hit historic lows 20 years ago, low payments from government washing stations led to smuggling coffee into Rwanda and Tanzania. As prices stabilized, Burundian farmers, noticing Rwanda's better prices for quality coffee, began forming cooperatives and improving their own coffee quality.
